Kuala Lumpur: Daren Liew announced his departure from Lee Zii Jia’s team. He has resigned from his position as assistant coach for personal reasons, and Friday was his last day of service.

Liew, who was hired as an assistant coach for Lee Zii Jia after he retired from the international tournament in April of 2023, has been assisting Lee’s coach Wong Tat Meng during tournaments.

Liew posted on his social media saying:

“In any journey there is always a beginning and an end.And today is my last day with Team LZJ as I have tendered my resignation for personal reasons.I leave with a heavy heart but also with wonderful memories as being in Team LZJ has provided me with another meaningful chapter in my badminton life.I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to Team LZJ and wishing them all the best for the coming season. To those who have supported me and followed my career, this is definitely not the end, I have known badminton since I was young and perhaps this is the right time for a much needed recharge before the next adventure.”

Team Lee Zii Jia also confirmed Liew’s resignation by posting on it’s social media:

“After a heart to heart discussion, Team LZJ with the heaviest of feelings agree to accept Liew Daren’s resignation from the team.

We respect his decision to do so citing personal reasons. ”

“Daren was an integral part of the team since day one and has played an important role in the development of Team LZJ.

His presence will be sorely missed by all within the team. ”

“As such the doors at Team LZJ will always remain open for Daren.

Thank you Captain for all you have done and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”
