Lee Chong Wei, Tai Tzu Ying hold steady at the top of BWF ranking

Kuala Lumpur: The latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings for the week of February 2, 2017 showed little changes in the top 10 as Lee Chong Wei and Tai Tzu Ying once again finished first in the men’s singles and women’s singles category.Lee Chong Wei hangs onto No. 1 at BWF ranking. Lee Chong Wei topped the men’s rankings with 78,613 points to hold a 3,571 points advantage over the second placed Jan Jorgensen.

Viktor Axelsen retained the same position in the No. 3 spot, followed by Son Wan-Ho, Chen Long, Lin Dan, Tian Houwei in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th spots, while Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long, Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen, and Korea’s Lee Hyun Il rounded up the 8th, 9th, 10th positions.

22-year-old Tai Tzu-Ying of Taiwan has shot up to the women’s singles World No. 1 spot after clinching the women’s singles title at the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships last November and has led the women’s singles world rankings ever since.

Rio Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin kept her World No. 2 position and Sung Ji-Hyun of Korea remained in the third spot.

The biggest move inside the women’s singles top 10 came from India’s P.V. Sindhu, who vaulted three spots to No. 6.

Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong finished the week in the men’s doubles top spot, while Denmark’s Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen rose 1 spot to No. 2.

Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi of Japan have cemented themselves atop the women’s doubles rankings, while Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen still the No. 1 mixed doubles pair in the world.
